TEACHER BIO & PHILOSOPHY

Renée is a music educator, composer, recording artist, and touring performer who teaches piano, guitar, and songwriting through her hybrid studio, offering lessons both in-person in NYC and online. She holds a BA in Music from Columbia College Chicago and a Master of Music Education (MMEd) from VanderCook College of Music. With extensive experience performing across the U.S. in bands, ensembles, and theatre pit orchestras, Renée also composes and performs her own music and is currently working on her third original album. A member of the National Association for Music Educators (NAfME) and a juror for the New York State School Music Association, she brings a balanced, student-centered teaching approach that blends theory, aural skills, and technique. Her lessons are designed to be engaging and personalized, aiming to build confidence and help students discover their musical voice and creative potential.

TUITION & FEES

Lessons will be billed for all lessons offered in the upcoming month. This secures a weekly time in my schedule and is not adjusted for lessons missed or canceled by students. Please see the monthly calendar for scheduled lessons. All lessons will be billed through Fons.

ATTENDANCE POLICIES

Students are expected to attend their scheduled lessons each week. Cancellations must be made through the Fons platform, and with at least 24 hours' notice (exceptions will be made for student illness), students may reschedule for a virtual makeup lesson. Each student may reschedule up to four (4) lessons within the school calendar year (September - June). Makeups must be completed within the same school year and do not carry over.

Lessons canceled with less than 24 hours' notice will be forfeited. If a student is late, the lesson will end at the scheduled time; if the teacher is late, the full lesson time will be provided. All scheduling and communication will be handled through Fons.

If the NYCDOE cancels in-person classes, all studio lessons will be held virtually via Zoom. Students will receive instructions on how to join the virtual session.

ILLNESS POLICY

If a student exhibits any symptoms of illness, such as flu, RSV, COVID-19, or a fever, they should opt for a virtual lesson during their regular time if they feel well enough. If not, a virtual makeup lesson can be arranged for a later date. Please note, missed makeup lessons will be forfeited.

LESSON REMINDERS

All lesson reminders, including Zoom links, will be sent via Fons. If you’re not receiving these notifications each week, please let me know.

LESSON NOTES:

All lesson notes will be available via Google Drive. If you'd like your child to have access to the folder and see what to prepare each week, please provide their email. If preferred, lesson notes can also be emailed via Fons within 48 hours of the lesson.
